FAQ
How do veterinary housecalls work?
Everything goes very similarly as it would at the
vet hospital, but you and your pet are in the
comfort of your own home!  Dr. Mathis performs
exams, vaccinations, treatments and even
heartworm tests at your home.  Generally she
spends about an hour for an appointment,
depending on the number of animals and
procedures performed.
What are the benefits of a housecall?
Pets are generally more relaxed in their own
environment and without a car trip!  Cats are
especially happy not to be placed into a cat
carrier.  You get more one-on-one time with the
veterinarian in your home, and she is able to
observe your pets in a more comfortable
atmosphere.
When I call Dr. Mathis, I always get her
voicemail.  Why is this?
Dr. Mathis answers her own phone and is often
unable to answer at the exact time you call.  She
may be with another client, or have her three wild
girls making a ruckus in the background!  Please
leave her a detailed message and she will return
your call as soon as possible--always within one
business day.  A wonderful way to reach her is
via email at
athomevet@comcast.net - she is
always checking her email and can respond even
while her kids are being rowdy:)
Aren't housecalls more expensive?
Not really!  The house call fee is $26 per trip (not
per pet!) within Dr. Mathis's normal area and the
rest of the prices are comparable to area
veterinary clinics.  There is an examination fee in
addition to the house call fee, which ranges from
$20-35.
