About the Veterinarian

Dr. Jessica Mathis can remember wanting to be a vet as far back as fourth grade. A love for and fascination with animals drove her to achieve her dream.  Dr. Mathis grew up in Northern Virginia and attended Virginia Tech for both her B.S. in Animal Science and her D.V.M.  After working for two small animal practices in North Carolina, a move to Florida along with the arrival of her third daughter led Dr. Mathis to start her own housecall practice.  In 2012, the Mathis family moved back to their home state and At Home Veterinary Care continued in Virginia.

In 2015, Dr. Mathis completed the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society's basic veterinary acupuncture course, and she achieved her Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist status in April of 2017.  She is a member of the AVMA, IVAS, AAVA, and VIN.

Dr. Mathis lives in Chester with her husband, Jeff (also a Hokie), three daughters (Jenna, 21, Julianna, 17, and Jordan, 16), a "chi-weenie" named BiBi and a Goldendoodle named Hank.  She enjoys yoga, scrapbooking, reading and trips to the beach when she isn't busy being a part-time vet and full-time mom.
